I have never been to a gym in my life but after moving to Parramatta I decided to join Golds for a one week free trial on the 26th October 2009. I enjoyed it and signed up after the trial week. I started walking half an hour a day on the treadmill for 6 days a week and gradually increased it to one hour a day 7 days a week. I weighed 80.2 kilos and was very excited to see the weight fall off. My original goal was to get down to 60 kilos and I reached this on the 3rd of June 2010. Feeling very motivated I revised my goal to 50 kilos and was thrilled to reach it on 11th of September 2010, just 10 months and 16 days after starting!

 

My diet was a low carb high protein diet which I tried to stick to 6 days a week. Coming from Sri Lanka it was very hard to give up eating rice but I would treat myself once a week and it gradually became easier. I have lost 6 dress sizes and feel great. The encouragement I received from Robert, all the staff at Golds and other members motivated me to keep going and a day is not complete now until I have been to the gym!

 

Gillians's Top Tips

  • Set yourself small daily exercise goals and gradually increase them as they become easier
  • Lower your carbohydrate intake and eat more protein
  • Be consistent
